Haarlem, Netherlands
Teylers Museum
The oldest museum in the Netherlands, unchanged since the eighteenth century.

Fossils, scientific instruments, coins and drawings by Michelangelo and Rembrandt, in oak cabinets lit only by daylight. Nothing has been modernised, which is precisely the point — you are walking through the Enlightenment.
Opening hours and prices change regularly — always check the museum’s own site before you travel.
Do not miss
- — The Oval Room
- — Michelangelo and Rembrandt drawings
- — Eighteenth-century electrostatic generator
