Romy van Rijckevorsel paints in an eclectic manner. In her work, you see many references to classical artists. (for example, Gustav Klimt, decorative backgrounds, but also Egon Schiele). It is also eclectic due to the different styles: drawing, graffiti, painting, and graphic elements. All these elements are very successfully combined into an organic whole where a personal handwriting is also lurking. That is very clever, as the combination of references and styles can also go wrong very quickly. In Romy’s work, however, she stops at exactly the right moment. The paintings are very postmodern in the sense of "anything is possible" and yet it is not at all restless.
