The view of the savanna from the Waterberg Plateau in Namibia is stunning. Everything is perfect except for the strange oval rainbow. In the famous book The Physics of the Free Field by Dr. M. Minnaert from 1937, all types of rainbows, circles, and wreaths are described, but this one is not included. Hence the title: Not in The Physics of the Free Field.
