De belofte van gouden bergen

This painting was specially made by Bert Hermans for the benefit of the Art Competition 'Gold' organized by the Art Circle Prins Alexander in Rotterdam. The painting shows a group of boat refugees on their way to 'Fort Europe'. We see the skyline of Rotterdam with the promise of golden mountains behind it. But the truth is usually different. The African older man, on the left, watches the refugees and perhaps hopes that they can financially support the home front later. The woman on the right shows the boat refugees the way back or is she reproachfully pointing them to the viewer? Bert won the first prize in November 2024 with this painting at the Art Competition 'Gold' of the Art Circle Prins Alexander in Rotterdam.
