A metaphor about courage, the cat that looks in the mirror, seying itself as a lion is a way in which each and every one of us may cultivate a self image that is not as courageous as we think we are. And when life brings us a true challenge, we can see weather a are a cat or a true lion. Both are as valid as there is room in life for courage as for stepping back.
