Reading is not just recognizing letters or understanding words: it is discovering a universe. Each syllable learned is a spark that can ignite the fire of critical thinking, imagination, and consciousness. In this sense, reading is a form of freedom. A person who knows how to read can access knowledge, question the status quo, dream, create, understand the world, and understand themselves. The fire Hugo describes is not destructive, but illuminating. He tells us about the light that emerges when a person, especially a child, learns to read for the first time.
