Memoire obscure

🪵 Frame: Black or natural wood shadow box (user’s choice) This painting is an oil on canvas of large format, executed in successive layers, according to a slow process where time plays an essential role. It is part of my work around abstract libraries, not as literal representations, but as mental architectures. The composition is structured by horizontal and vertical layers, suggesting rows, accumulations, silent presences. A dark field dominates the upper part, creating an almost meditative depth, while more muted tones - grays, blues, ochres, and subdued reds - build the lower space with restraint. As often in my work, a red ochre background is present from the beginning. It acts as a pictorial ground, a buried memory on which the successive layers settle. The painting is constructed as much by additions as by erasures, leaving traces, breaths, deliberately silent zones. Dark Memory is not a library to read, but a space to inhabit. It evokes accumulated time, knowledge, inner memory, in a deliberately sober and non-narrative approach. The large format allows for total immersion, inviting the gaze to circulate slowly, without imposed focal point. This work is representative of my current work: a painting of balance, restraint, and depth, designed to be sustainably integrated into a living or contemplative space.
