Fractal Bloom

In this piece, I centered everything around a single, large tree. it stretches its bare branches into a soft, pinkish sky. I wanted the tree to feel ancient, weathered, maybe caught in a moment of stillness during a long dry season. The branches are completely bare, and I used muted browns and grays to give them a quiet, subdued tone. What really fascinated me while working on it was the root system, I made the roots thick and sprawling, spreading wide across the bottom of the canvas. I gave them a darker, greenish-brown tone to contrast with the paler sky above. There’s something grounding and symbolic about those roots, like they hold the weight of unseen stories. The background is a foggy, almost dreamlike blend of pinks, lavenders, dark greens, and grays. I didn’t want any hard edges just soft transitions, a hazy kind of depth that gives the impression of mist or early morning light. I used a thick, impasto texture here, you can see the brushstrokes and feel the physicality of the paint, which adds this sculptural quality to the whole scene. The mood I was aiming for is calm but contemplative, quiet, maybe even a bit lonely or mysterious. It’s not a loud piece. It’s more of a whisper, something that invites you to sit with it, to look at the stillness and wonder what’s hidden beneath the surface.
