Yevgen Marchenko

Yevgen Marchenko was born in Donetsk, Ukraine. He learned oil painting technique by age fifteen, though it remained a hobby through his school years. He pursued higher education in social philosophy and the philosophy of history, and worked in unrelated fields until 2014, when an armed conflict in his hometown prompted a fundamental shift in his life and priorities. Since then, painting has become central to his work and practice, and he has pursued his own artistic direction from the beginning.

Marchenko works primarily with oil paint on black canvas, using incomplete coverage so that the black surface functions as both foundation and compositional element. His subjects draw from symbolic, mythological, religious, and pseudo-religious imagery. He continues to explore new styles and techniques alongside this primary approach.
