About Volker Mayr

Volker Mayr trained under his grandfather, the German painter Otto Gloßmann, beginning with realistic paintings. Since 1985, he has worked predominantly in abstract painting, influenced by abstract expressionism. He paints intuitively and emotionally, working to create images that capture the viewer's imagination.
His paintings combine painterly gestures with visible structures of color mass. The work occupies rarely explored areas, inviting a patient and sensitive approach to discover the subtle nuances within each piece. The meditative quality of his paintings emerges from their dynamic origins and formal inventory.
