Sonia J.

Born and raised in Portugal, Sonia J. is a contemporary abstract artist whose work emerges from the profound duality between a long career in corporate leadership and a later return to intuition, emotion, and sensory experience. After three decades working as a C-level executive in the global tech industry, she shifted her life and practice from the cosmopolitan structure of Lisbon to the raw stillness of Serra da Estrela, where she now lives and works.Sonia’s textured abstractions are shaped by the natural erosion, silence, and shifting mountain light surrounding her studio. Working with acrylics, sand, gesso, and layered relief, she creates emotional topographies that explore the meeting point between structure and surrender — a conceptual framework she calls Dual Hirathe. Her lines, both precise and broken, function as thresholds balancing logic and intuition.

Her work has gained international recognition. She was selected as one of the Top 10 Berlin Contemporary Artists (2024–2025), holds an AKOUN valuation, and has exhibited in Berlin, Barcelona, Braga, Lecce and Milan, and across Portugal. Sonia has been invited to create commissioned collections for hotel and spa interiors in Italy, notably for the PARC HOTEL SAN PIETRO and associated luxury spaces.

Her collections — including Earth, Raw, Spring ’25, Blues – Breaking Stereotypes, Liberation, Topographies, The Rain Doesn’t Cry, Here, There and Everywhere, and Light as Matter — appear in private collections across Europe and have been featured on Saatchi Art, Singulart, and Artmajeur.

Sonia’s practice is rooted in the belief that art is not decoration but presence — a space of grounding, renewal, and emotional freedom.
