About Salomeya Bauer
Salomeya Bauer is a film director and artist. Through video documentation and research, she examines borderline states of mind and mental crisis. In her painting, she addresses gender issues through her portrayal of characters, and explores the opposition between individuals and society in contexts of separatism, integration, and self-identification.
Bauer grew up in the North Caucasus during a period marked by conflict, and several years ago returned to her historical homeland of Georgia, where she devoted herself fully to painting. The contrasting mentalities, religions, and social structures she has lived within have shaped her work as a painter.
Her art engages with contemporary problems while also capturing what she sees as timeless contradictions of human nature—the simultaneous fragility, helplessness, and destructive capacity inherent in being human.
