About Netty Gelijsteen

Netty Gelijsteen has been creating work since 1993, exploring squares and places through an approach that centers on encounters with people. With her Votive Talisman series, these encounters form the foundation of the work itself.
Her recent work from 2020 and 2021 consists of embroidered blind drawings based on encounters documented in large-scale contact prints and on canvas. These pieces are drawn from the Dam in Amsterdam, the Binnenhof, and locations including sidewalks, parks, walls, and Hiroshima.
