Leonie Maréchal

Leonie Maréchal was born in Eindhoven in 1948 and grew up in Drentsdorp. Painting and drawing have been central to her life since childhood, shaped by a home environment where art and nature were valued. She studied painting and drawing at the Academy for Visual Arts.

Maréchal's work focuses on nature and the world around her, rendered in a quiet and expressive manner. She works directly on linen and paper using acrylics, oil paint, and charcoal, applying paint with spatulas, brushes, and her hands. Her paintings explore landscapes with limited color palettes, seeking out structures, expressiveness, and the play of light across trees and organic forms. The work reflects a feeling for the spiritual that she finds most fully in nature.
