About Justinian Scarlatescu
Bucharest, Romania
Justinian Scarlatescu was born in Bucharest in 1977 and studied at the National University of Arts in Bucharest. He combines training as a painter with work in photography and drawing, using a technique that merges these disciplines through analog processes.
His method involves manually developing photographs on canvas, wood, and recycled paper using liquid photo emulsion combined with techniques from typography and traditional darkroom practice. Each work produced this way has unrepeatable visual qualities, making every piece unique.
Scarlatescu has exhibited widely in solo and group shows since 2009, including exhibitions at the National Library of Romania, the Curtea Veche Museum in Bucharest, the Museum of Young Art Vienna, and institutions throughout Romania and Europe. His work has been included in Art Safari (2015–2016) and other significant group presentations.
