Jan Teunissen

Jan Teunissen was born in Veldhoven in the south of the Netherlands and now lives and works in nearby Best. He began painting realistic works in 1983, bringing a technical background to his practice as a self-taught artist. He developed his approach by studying paintings by old Dutch and Flemish masters and by engaging with contemporary painters.

Teunissen works exclusively in oil on panel, creating still life compositions that feature everyday objects, utensils, food, and fruit. His process involves arranging subjects in his studio within a dark box under subtle lighting to achieve a chiaroscuro atmosphere, which he translates into his paintings. His works are typically rendered life-size or smaller than life-size.

His paintings have been exhibited and sold internationally, including in Belgium, France, Hong Kong, India, Italy, New Zealand, Oman, Taiwan, and Qatar.
