About Guoqiang Wu
Düsseldorf, Germany
Guoqiang Wu was born in 1995 in Anhui, China, and grew up in China. He currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
He studied Painting and Graphic Art at the Hochschule der bildenden Künste Essen, where he completed his degree with the final grade of 1.0. Before that, he studied Free Art and Painting at the Akademie für Künste ASK Berlin and attended German language courses at Peking University.
His artistic practice focuses on contemporary abstract painting, mainly acrylic on canvas. Through lines, colour fields, layered surfaces and repeated painterly revisions, he creates inner pictorial spaces between order and disruption, geometric structure and emotional expression.
Wu has participated in several exhibitions and art presentations in Germany, including Rundgang HBK Essen, “Vor Ort” with students and lecturers of HBK Essen at Maschinenhalle Dorsten, and the 9th Revierkunst at Zeche Ewald Herten. In 2020, he was nominated for the HBK Essen Schulstipendium and later received the official NRW artist funding “Künstlerstipendium Auf geht’s!” during the COVID-19 period.
Selected works are held in private collections.
