Guido Verhoek

Guido Verhoek was born in Mill, Netherlands, in 1947 and lives and works in Nijmegen. He trained as a teacher of arts and geography, studied at the Free Academy of Nijmegen under Diane Dyckhoff and Uwe Poth, and studied graphics at OAK Nijmegen under Frans de Groot. He is a member of NABK (National Association for Visual Artists) and the BBK Professional Group of Visual Artists.

Verhoek's work draws from natural processes in the northern Vosges, particularly the decomposition of rock and stone. His pieces explore the tension between the apparent solidity of rock and its underlying brittleness. He describes his objects as representing this duality: at first glance sturdy and permanent, yet on closer examination fragile and impermanent. His abstract works have an architectural quality that emerges from this investigation of natural material and decay.
