About Giuliano Amedeo Tosi
Giuliano Amedeo Tosi was born in Bern in 1992 and lives and works in Zurich. He holds Swiss and Italian citizenship and feels closely connected to both countries. He began painting professionally at age twenty, following work in the design industry. He is largely self-taught, having acquired his skills independently.
His work centers on distorted, bent, merging, or disappearing figures in unreal spaces and natural landscapes. He combines realistic elements with elements from his imagination, often incorporating nature backgrounds that contribute mood to the composition. He employs both intuitive and precise techniques, working with various materials and increasingly using the raw color of the canvas itself. Human anatomy, particularly the musculoskeletal structure, plays an important role in his practice. His subjects include women, men, young people, children, and animals, typically depicted without clothing. In some works he renders muscle fibers and bones alongside ordinary bodies. His visual language tends toward strong symbolism and exaggeration in order to convey clear meaning.
