About Gerda Viszer
Leek, Netherlands
Gerda Viszer – Van der Hoorn is a visual artist from Leek. The paintings have an impressionistic style with an expressive touch. They are colorful, lively, and full of movement. She enjoys painting plein-air landscapes, still lifes, and human figures.
Since a young age, Gerda has been drawing and painting. Growing up among flowers and plants, her fascination with color and fragile beauty has always remained. With her fashion background and design, she has a strong sense of color and composition.
She paints figuratively and expressively, often from direct observation. Her plein-air works have a spontaneous, impressionistic appearance. Her paintings arise from direct observation and spontaneity, which is palpable in each work. She creates commissioned portraits and rents out her paintings.
After her studies in drawing and painting at the teacher training college in Leeuwarden, she resumed painting intensively in 2014. She took various courses and completed the Portrait School training at the Noorderateliers in Groningen in 2023. She now creates commissioned portraits, capturing the essence of her subject with loose brush strokes and attention to character and mood. She rents out her paintings, and you can also approach her for commissions.
Since 2023, Gerda has also been working with clay and plaster, for which she is taking a sculpting course in Groningen.
