Gabriel Glid

Gabriel Glid is a sculptor who emerged onto the art scene at the end of the 1980s and beginning of the 1990s. He works in a minimalist approach, using both traditional materials such as wood, metal, and stone, as well as newer materials including sponge, rubber, and silicone. His sculptures are based on basic geometric shapes—cubes, cylinders, squares—which he elaborates to create new layers of meaning. His work engages with themes of identity, consumer society, and geopolitical relations.

In 2018, Glid received the Politika Award for best exhibition for "Seen and Not Seen," which was held in October and November 2017 at the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Nis, housed in the Officers Club. The exhibition presented a selection of his sculptures and graphics. The jury, composed of art historians Sasa Janjic, Ljiljana Cinkul, Gordana Dobric, Una Popovic, and Marija Djordjevic, recognized his work as outstanding among that year's exhibitions in Serbia.

At the Nis exhibition, Glid also presented graphics created using silk-screen printing and print techniques from the series "Carpets." His artistic approach emphasizes contemplative freedom and works through allusion, humor, and irony rather than direct statement, inviting viewers to develop their own interpretations of his work.
