About Fran Simó
Barcelona, Spain
Fran Simó was born in 1973 in Villa Carlos Paz, Córdoba, Argentina, and currently lives between Istanbul, Palma, and Barcelona. His artistic education is largely non-formal, built through workshops and seminars with figures such as Alberto García-Alix, Javier Vallhonrat, and Tino Soriano, alongside training in interactive systems and new media at Hangar (Barcelona).
His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Es Baluard Museu d'Art Modern i Contemporani (Palma), the ppt Open Art Festival (Alicante, 2022), Loop Barcelona Festival / ideoGrama Foundation (2021), the Center for Fine Art Photography (Fort Collins, USA), 1650 Gallery (Los Angeles), the Miami Street Photography Festival, and the Dumbo Arts Festival and Trinity Church Museum in New York.
He was longlisted for the Lumen Prize in 2015 and 2017, and was a finalist for the DOCfield Dummy Award (Fundació Banc Sabadell) in 2015 and 2017. In 2024–2025 he undertook a residency in Civitella di Licenza, Italy, supported by Culture Moves Europe.
His work has appeared in publications including Barcelona (La Fábrica) and Central Park NYC: An Architectural View (Universe Books), and he has produced numerous self-published artist books and fanzines, among them Heaven, CODE by R. Mutt, and Passengers.
