About Ellen Kuijl
Zandvoort, Netherlands
Her materials, metal and glass, unite the principle of formation through heating. In the glass, she translates tribal motifs and geometric basic shapes.
The Smithy, a former blacksmith shop in the heart of Zandvoort, has been Ellen Kuijl's permanent workshop since 2008. The atmosphere of The Smithy, named studio Akwaaba, fits seamlessly with the work that Ellen creates: rustic metal objects in which she incorporates fused glass. The earthy appearance of the metal is perfectly at home in this studio, and the colorful glass elements add a light touch to it.
She also works on commission and gives workshops.
