About Dorine van der Ploeg
Dorine van der Ploeg studied at the Wackers Academy in Amsterdam, graduating in 2015 under the mentorship of Jim Harris.
Van der Ploeg's work stems from careful observation of her immediate surroundings. She works with scissors and painted sheets of paper, entering the landscape to find inspiration in light, colour, and form. Her compositions are built as collages, with various snapshots merging together, particularly visible in larger works developed over several days. This collage technique creates a separation in her process: one moment dedicated to mixing colours and painting sheets of paper, and another to arranging these sheets into composition. Because the painted sheets are not created with a specific subject in mind, the exact colour needed is often missing from her collection, even with the wide range of greens, browns, and ochres she carries with her.
