About Dominic Brown
Rijswijk, Netherlands
Dominic Brown is a contemporary artist from Rijswijk in the Netherlands who works in mixed media, creating paintings, murals, and fabric designs. His work falls into three categories: portraits, landscapes, and abstractions. His compositions are densely layered with juxtaposed elements in color, shape, and technique, appearing dynamic and spontaneous while remaining balanced and deliberate.
Brown draws inspiration from ancient civilizations including Egypt, Greece, Maya, Inca, and African cultures, focusing on their murals, hieroglyphs, symbols, mythology, and architecture. He combines these influences into his own visual language through a distinctive creative process. Despite his extensive use of digital technology throughout his career, each artwork begins with pencil drawings, which are then scanned and reworked digitally into colorful compositions.
Once the digital file is finalized, Brown prints the work on canvas, dibond aluminum, or wood in limited editions, usually of the highest quality. The process does not end there. Each piece is then completed by hand with various materials including texture gel, colored markers, paint, glitter, and gold leaf, making each work unique. This approach reflects his belief that art must be innovative and push beyond traditional artistic practice.
