Dirk de Keyzer

Dirk de Keyzer was born in Sleidinge, near Ghent, in 1958. He studied at the Royal Academy in Eeklo, where he developed a preference for working in bronze using the lost wax method. Though labor-intensive, this technique produces sustainable and timeless results, and de Keyzer has mastered it well enough to execute complex compositions. Modeling with close attention to fine detail is central to his practice, as is the special patina that characterizes his work.

His inspiration comes from travels to Africa and India, as well as from the people around him. De Keyzer creates mainly quirky and elegant female figures alongside stubborn, pleasantly disturbed male characters. His work radiates positivity and subtle humor, qualities that have helped his art bridge cultural differences. His sculptures have been exhibited in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Lebanon, and the United States.
