For years, my life was consumed by the darkness of addiction. The tragic death of my father during my childhood had left me with deep emotional wounds, leading to a diagnosis of depression and PTSD at the age of 13. Art, once a source of solace, had faded into the shadows as I spiraled into a cycle of self destruction.

However, fate had a different plan. One day, my daughter Madison, a beacon of hope amidst the turmoil, sent me a video of paint pouring. As I watched the vibrant colors swirl and dance on the canvas, a spark ignited within me. It was as if a dormant part of my soul had been awakened.

With newfound determination, I purchased my first set of paints and began to experiment. The process was cathartic, allowing me to express my emotions and channel my inner turmoil onto the canvas. Layer upon layer, I poured my heart and soul into each artwork, finding solace in the vibrant hues and abstract patterns that emerged.

As I painted, memories of my childhood both haunted and inspired me. The bright colors represented the hope and resilience that had always been present within me, even during the darkest times. The abstract nature of my work allowed me to explore the complexities of my emotions and experiences, creating a visual representation of my inner journey.

With each brushstroke, I felt a sense of liberation. The addiction that had once defined me was slowly fading away, replaced by a newfound passion for art.

Madison's love and belief in me had given me the strength to confront my demons and embrace a life of sobriety.

Today, I paint non-stop. My studio in Baltimore, is filled with bright canvases that reflect the vibrant colors of my recovery. I find joy in sharing my artwork with others, hoping to inspire them with my story of transformation.

Through the depths of addiction, I lost myself. But thanks to my daughter's unwavering love and the transformative power of art, I have found my purpose once more. As a sober artist, I am grateful for the opportunity to paint my way towards a brighter future, one brushstroke at a time.
