About Caroline Chopin
Caroline Chopin is a sculptor who works primarily in clay, plaster, porcelain stoneware, and porcelain. She moves through these materials in sequence, progressing from harsher substances to more delicate ones, with each medium giving rise to different forms of expression.
Chopin shapes spontaneously, without preparatory drawings or plans. She works from instinctive gesture and direct contact with the material, allowing forms to emerge and overlap as she works. The resulting pieces reveal both real and imaginary elements, with surfaces that range from smooth to rough, slender to massive, marked by curves or edges that suggest finesse or robustness.
Her work grows from ongoing reflection and questioning, seeking to reach toward the depth of beings and things.
