About Antje Stel
Antje Stel is a painter who depicts reality in a recognizable way on panels, working in portraiture, landscapes, and still life. She began developing her drawing skills in youth through drawing lessons before specializing in painting. She studied academic painting with master painter Cornelis Le Mair, whose techniques form the foundation for her portraits and still lifes, and took lessons with Russian impressionist landscape painter Alexander Savin, whose approach shapes her landscape work.
Stel's paintings range from elaborately worked portraits that bear striking resemblance to their subjects to abstracted landscapes painted with a rough, broad loose touch. Her compositions are marked by harmony of color and restrained handling. Working primarily in oil, she creates paintings that suggest three-dimensionality through the interplay of color, light, and shadow. Her work is sold both domestically and internationally.
