Server settings for any mail programme

The plain IMAP, POP and SMTP details.

For any mail programme not covered by the other guides. These are all the details there are.

Incoming — IMAP

  • Server: imap.migadu.com
  • Port: 993
  • Security: SSL/TLS
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: the one we sent you

IMAP keeps everything in sync: read something on your laptop and it is read on your phone too. This is the one to pick.

Incoming — POP3

  • Server: pop.migadu.com
  • Port: 995
  • Security: SSL/TLS

POP downloads messages to one device and is usually gone from the server afterwards. Only choose this if you know you want it.

Outgoing — SMTP

  • Server: smtp.migadu.com
  • Port: 465
  • Security: SSL/TLS
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: the same one

Some programmes still offer port 587 with STARTTLS. That works too, but 465 is the one to prefer.

If it will not connect

Nine times out of ten it is one of these:

  • A space that came along when you pasted the password.
  • A capital I typed where a lowercase l belongs, or the other way round.
  • Only the part before the @ filled in as the username. It needs the whole address.
  • The security left on *None*. Every one of these servers requires SSL/TLS.
