About Jacqueline Bertens

After completing a 5-year drawing eductional program at the Municipal Academy of Fine Arts in Arendonk, Belgium, Jacqueline pursued a 3-year specialization in Drawing. Additionally, she participated in a monoprint workshops, that stimulated her to develop new techniques, creating prints using acrylic paint and various objects, which she incorporated into her drawings.

In 2017, Jacqueline took the online course 'Experimenting with Collage' at the MoMA in New York, leading to the production of collages by combining cut paper from diverse sources such as magazines, newspapers, and found materials. These collages, along with mono-prints, served as bases for her drawings.

Her artistic journey extended to mixed media, where she collected and organized materials like cut paper objects, wallpaper, music books, old maps, discarded flat tin cans, textiles, feathers, and natural elements for future use.

In her art, she draws inspiration from her past roles as a police officer and assistant archaeologist, where exploring traces from the past and future was crucial. In her last job overseeing 'railway affairs,' she immersed herself in both the metaphorical and literal aspects of track exploration, deepening her fascination with the interplay of history and potential futures.

Her chaotic mind, reflected in her drawings, collages, and prints, found order through structured arrangements. The interplay of lines in spaces, buildings, or natural landscapes, such as rows of trees or railway lines, captivated her. Artists like Koen Vermeule, Koen van den Broek, and Paul Klee inspired her exploration of structure and chaos in her artwork.
