Museum Beelden aan Zee

The only museum in the Netherlands devoted entirely to sculpture, dug into the dunes of Scheveningen.

Museum Beelden aan Zee is the only museum in the Netherlands that is exclusively dedicated to the presentation, education and research of sculpture. Modern and contemporary sculpture find a unique environment here: surrounded by sea, dunes and an iconic building. The museum was founded in 1994 by collectors Theo Scholten and Lida Scholten-Miltenburg; what began as a private collection around the human figure has grown into a broad collection of modern and contemporary sculpture, Dutch and international. The building by architect Wim Quist sits directly beneath the historic Pavilion Von Wied, less than 500 metres south of the Kurhaus, in sand-coloured concrete, glass, natural stone and wood that let it almost disappear into the dune landscape — a place cherished as much for its architecture and sea views as for its art.
