View of the Reichstag dome in Berlin
Over het werk
The painting was part of a joint exhibition with the Berlin painter H. R. Dietzel - the motifs were mostly shown from the same perspective in different techniques. One of the focal points of the exhibition was Berlin's new government district, which was created after German unification. The Reichstag building, which was opened in 1894 and is now the seat of parliament, is one of the central buildings in this district. The modernisation of the building in the 1990s broke with the force of the Wilhelmine architecture of the German Empire, above all through the new, walk-in, transparent glass dome from which one can look inside into the plenary chamber and which occupies a prominent position in the cityscape.
