Over het werk
It's early in the morning, I'm walking through the streets of the old city of Nijmegen. Although the streets are deserted, everything is breathing the bustling activity that has taken place for centuries and often still takes place. Sparkling of life, sparkling of light on a sunny day. The morning light accentuates the lines and details of the old facades. 'The Morning Light Draws A Shadow Of The Past' is a photo in the collection 'Lost cities'. I made the photos in this small series early in the morning in the Begijnenstraat in the old city of the city of Nijmegen, The Netherlands. This old part of the city is called 'Benedenstad' (Down Town), it is literally up to 20 meters below the adjacent city center. Winding streets with buildings of sometimes hundreds of years old, take you to the past. During the Second World War, large parts of this district were destroyed in a bombing. During the rebuilding, much attention has been paid to architecture that fits the ancient facades. As often with these types of projects, there are a lot of different opinions on how successful that has been done. All limited edition prints are signed and numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Many sizes available up to 145 H x 145 W cm. Other materials (canvas, Baryta paper, mounted on hard foam, print on extreme high gloss foil, framed) and other sizes on request. Do you prefer to frame the artwork yourself (or have it framed) instead of mounting it on alu-dibond? No problem, send me a message and I'll send you a quote of the print on museum quality paper. Production time is 7-10 working days. All my artworks are original photographs 'made in camera'. This means that I never use filters or editing software to manipulate my photos. This is a custom made fine art inktjet / giclée print. Since it will be custom made for you, there is NO RETURN OPTION.

Over de kunstenaar
My main inspiration is the vulnerability of nature. I see changes in nature. I see the effects of urbanization, the pressure of pollution and of the changes in the climate. I hope to make people aware of that vulnerability by sharing what I feel when I look around me. Daily life in the western world is overflowing with stimuli that continuously force our senses to the limit of their abilities. In my photographs I seek to capture the simplicity and tranquility of natural environments and to share my experience of nature’s soul. I was born in the city of Gouda, the Netherlands in 1959. In the summer of 2018 my wife and I moved from a larger city in The Netherlands to a small hamlet in northwest Jutland. We fell in love with the Thy-region about ten years ago… We live a simple, minimalistic life, as self sufficient and sustainable as possible, and we love it… The North Sea and the nature reserve National Park Thy are my muses.
