Every year, more than 18 million dogs are killed for human consumption. Their short, miserable lives are entirely marked by suffering. The commercial production of dog meat inevitably brings cruelty at every stage, whether it is in a "dog farm", during the capture of dogs on the street, or during the transport and slaughter of the animals. Slaughter methods are deliberately designed to make the suffering of the animal as intense and prolonged as possible. This is because people mistakenly believe that torturing a dog before its death results in tastier meat, rich in adrenaline. The animals are slaughtered in various ways, including being bludgeoned to death, hanged by the neck, electrocuted, strangled, or skinned or boiled alive.
