In 1954, a man threw a bucket of Nile perch into Lake Victoria. In the 1980s, it was discovered that this invasive fish had eaten nearly all the originally living fish (cichlids) in the lake. The ecosystem of the lake has since been severely disrupted. The population suffers from hunger because the Nile perch is exported to the west.
