In Justitia, Horváth Lajos reinterprets the timeless allegory of Justice through his distinctive symbolic language. Rather than presenting a conventional representation, he creates a metaphysical vision that explores truth, moral responsibility and the delicate balance between justice and human nature. Rich in symbolism and philosophical reflection, the painting invites viewers to contemplate the universal search for fairness beyond law, time and culture. Lajos Horváth (1941–2019) was a Hungarian painter born in Pápa, Hungary, who lived and worked in Veszprém from 1998 until his death. He developed a distinctive symbolic visual language, combining the traditions of classical European painting with surrealism and a deeply personal mythology. From 1980 he was a member of the Hungarian Art Fund, later joining the Association of Hungarian Fine and Applied Artists and the Veszprém Artists' Guild. His works have been exhibited widely in Hungary and internationally, and are represented in both public and private collections. This artwork comes directly from the artist's estate, has documented provenance, and is included in the Horváth Lajos Digital Archive (2026). The artwork is offered on behalf of Horváth Attila, the artist's son, from the family's private collection.
