Marc Amsterdam is independent artist Marc de Vries (Naarden, 1967).
My work – ranging from timeless, sensual murals to sleek, subtly provocative artworks – is open to more than one interpretation. Yet, there is a common thread in my work: the ever-present sensuality that also softens my more abstract or colorful pieces.
A continuous explosion that began in 1988, fueled by my mother's colorful clothing.”
Marc Amsterdam delivers both autonomous series and custom work commissioned by third parties. From colorful to colorless, often making use of 'mixed media'. In addition to acrylic and oil, De Vries works with carefully selected materials such as foam rubber, paper, gold leaf, or even coke envelopes (for the series 'Cunst' from 2007).
The creations of Marc Amsterdam can regularly be seen during exhibitions and at international art fairs, beautifying, meanwhile far beyond the Dutch border, the interiors of many companies and individuals.
