Jane Gottlieb

Jane Gottlieb was born in Los Angeles, California in 1946. She studied at the University of California at Berkeley from 1964 to 1965, spent her junior year at the University of Syracuse in Florence, Italy in 1966, and received her BA degree in Painting and Art History from UCLA in 1967 and 1968. She also attended the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1969, where she studied Graphic Design.

From 1968 to 1982, Gottlieb worked as an Art Director, Designer, and Photographer in the advertising, film, magazine, music, fashion, and theater industries in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Since 1982, she has worked full-time as a fine art photographer. Her early work, created between 1982 and 1998, consisted of archival hand-painted Cibachrome prints. From 1992 onward, she has created Photoshop-enhanced, painted, and collaged photographs printed on aluminum, canvas, and various photographic papers.

Her work has been exhibited in solo shows at institutions including the UCSB AD&A Museum, the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, UCLA's Charles Young Library, UCLA's Anderson School of Management, and UCLA's Law School Library. She has also shown at the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard, California, the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, the Laguna Beach Art Museum, and the Palos Verdes Art Center. Her photographs have been displayed in galleries in Santa Barbara, New York, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, Beverly Hills, Rome, and Milan, as well as in a three-year exhibition at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. Two of her works were displayed as billboards at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles for over twenty years.
