About Heidi Siemes
Arcen, Netherlands
Heidi Siemes was born in 1974 in Arcen.
School was not really her thing. She was always daydreaming, and her fantasies filled the pages of her school notebooks with drawings. She ended up at the Castle Gardens in Arcen, where she worked for years as an animal caretaker. Her heart is strongly connected to nature and the animals that live in it, which is always reflected in her work. Her travels around the world are also an important source of inspiration.
In the first years, it was mainly dot painting paintings. This inspiration came from her trip around Australia that she made in 96/97, where she came into contact with Aboriginal art. After the dot painting period, she sought more challenge and started painting portraits, combined with botanical and decorative elements.
Heidi mainly works with acrylic paint, charcoal, pastel chalk, and acrylic markers, usually on canvas, sometimes on large plastic canvas.
Her use of color is exuberant, with sometimes unusual combinations that, when the canvas is finished, result in an overwhelmingly special and impressive work.
