Evert Hendriksen

Evert Hendriksen, based in Utrecht, sees himself primarily as a creative craftsman. The core of his work is making "Icons in wire"—one-to-one scale wire figures of objects and utensils that hold iconic meaning for him. These wire figures function as three-dimensional sketches, creating strong graphic images against a light background, and often evoke recognition through their familiar forms.

Many objects in his collection pay tribute to design icons, from the Opinel knife and Philips record player to the neck of a Gretsch guitar, the claw hammer, the Polaroid camera, the Agfa Clack, and his neighbor's violin. The wire figures are braided and never welded together, their loops and knots mirroring the archetypal utensils that have embedded themselves in our collective memory.
