About Alexander Chernitsky
Minsk, Belarus
Alexander Chernitsky was born in Minsk, Belarus on August 1, 1963. From the age of twelve, he studied at the art studio of Vasily Sumarev, a Belarusian artist, and later with Vladimir Tkachenko. His artistic formation took place during the 1980s in the Soviet Union. After refusing to join the Komsomol during his student years, he was barred from higher educational institutions. He received informal art education through evening classes at the Repin Institute of the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, attending student lessons in painting and drawing through friends who were enrolled there, and supplemented this with self-education and attendance at various creative studios and workshops in Belarus.
Chernitsky has exhibited his work throughout Europe and America.
