II. Pallas Athena observing a war unfolding.
About the work
After Willem Isaacsz. van Swanenburg, after Michiel Jansz van Mierevelt, 1595 - 1612 with a mention of Petrus Scriverius on the object. And now a 4th name can be added to that list: Stephan Raymond Post who completed the coloring process in 2021. Colorizing this goddess took over a 100 hours. Athena (/Minerva) leans against a tree. She wears her classic gold helmet and holds her mighty spear. Also leaning against the tree, the Aegis shield with the head of Medusa. For her skin color the plants Mars and Venus have been used, aiming on creating a tinted skin color under her dark black hair and powerful appearance. Below the scene are four lines in Latin that is Minerva's promise to Paris. The print is enlarged to 100 × 170cm. The original is 14.2 × 24.6 cm.
