About the work

Old Kawata, Eurasian Crane, is a watercolor illustration of an elderly crane which I photographed at the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. I call him “Old” since he was arthritic and couldn't sit all the way down to the grass. This gave me a chance to observe his beautiful feathers, and the varying shades of pale colors in those feathers. He was shown in my exhibit there in 2005. This painting is realistic, yet delicate, and nearly ephemeral, displaying soft and blending colors of light and space. It conveys changes in light and the delicate nature of moving feathers which reflect light from various angles.

This framed painting (thin gold metal frame and white archival mat) is 27" x 34". The painting floats 2" away from the frame  so it approximately 23" x 30". The natural watercolor paper has the deckled edge, so this attractively floats on top of the mat.

Shipping is included in the price of this painting, and we can negotiate this cost if you live close to me in Chicago area, U.S.
