About the work

This is one watercolour painting of which I had painted more than once by using a stencil I had made to use time and again, producing similar paintings, but obviously never exactly the same, being originals. That was quite a while back in 2010, as the date indicates and I had painted them on Hahnemuhle – William Turner 300g/m paper, a favourite of mine. I love this quality paper for its texture and fine grain, giving it a well detailed, but slightly velvet imagery if one wishes to manipulate it. I had chosen to paint it in the ‘flare’ style that I had developed to paint my birds in particular, of which you may see in my Aviary series.

The image is simple, of the  popular and proud cockerel based on the oil painting I initially painted titled ‘Colourful Morning’, which is in my repertoire. Apart that these lovely creatures are a spectrum, they like to welcome in the dawn and give a start to a fresh new day and that is the concept behind this picture.  May you have a good day!
