About the artist

Bert Weening as born on June 22, 1970 in Enschede, but grew up in the Flevoland polder. In 2014 he started painting and at the end of 2016 started training 17th-century painting techniques in addition to his work.

But from his love for the palette knife he developed his own expressive style in wich the oil paint is applied coarsely and in thick layers.  He was inspired by impressionist painters such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Isaac Israëls. This is reflected in de quick and direct touch, the bright and fresh colors.

Weening's landscapes provide an interpretation of reality, where sight lines ans dept allow fou to see far into the landscape. His paintings give you the feeling being part of the image and the thick layers of paint draw your eyes tot the impressive skies that are part of his Dutch landscapes.  In recent years,  Weening's work had grown steadily, literally because of the size of hiswork, but also figuratively.  You can see that he enjoys working with oil paint and with his palette knife he creates powerful works.
