About the artist
Annejole Jacobs-de Jongh (Jole), born in Breda (The Netherlands) makes modern mixed-media portraits since 2003, on commission for private individuals and companies or as free work.
Her work consists of 'portraits with a story'. She makes designs on the basis of all kinds of digital images, photos and texts and then paints the portraits on backgrounds printed on canvas. The backgrounds of the paintings are often composed of various layers of digital images, texts and scanned originals from art, history, music, literature or contemporary times.
In her work she is often inspired by women. Apart from this she also made a series of love couples on the backgrounds of famous love paintings, a series 'Made in Holland' with the most famous Dutch people, brands, items and paintings, 'Van Gogh' and 'De Rotterdammers', two paintings where all famous Rotterdam buildings, people, events, statements and brands have been incorporated. Her latest series "Take your time" consists of compilations of images, people, texts, photos and items from different eras.
Jole exhibits and sells her work directly and through art brokers and galleries. In 2009 she won the first prize in a national competition with the painting by Maxima and exhibited in the CODA-Museum. In 2015 she was selected as one of the contemporary Dutch pop art artists for the exhibition 'Ontpopt' in the Museum van Zandvoort and in 2016 her painting of 'Van Gogh' was selected for the exhibition '125 variations on Van Gogh' in the museum of Breda.
In 2019 Annejole took part in the TV program 'Sterren op het doek' in which she made the winning portrait of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.
Jole lives and works in Rotterdam.
