Hans van Wingerden: Moments of Stillness

28. juli 2026

Hans van Wingerden graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1974 and went on to receive the Royal Subsidy, one of the Netherlands' most prestigious awards, in 1977. His photographs have traveled through museums and collections across Europe and beyond, including the Rijksdienst Beeldende Kunst and the Stedelijk Museum in his home country. Van Wingerden's eye captures solitary moments—weathered stone walls, solitary trees, open skies—rendered with a documentary's honesty and a nostalgic warmth. Whether photographing the streets of Yogja, the landscapes of Lombok, or the quieter corners of Europe, his work finds beauty in the unhurried passage of everyday life, letting natural light and simple geometry speak for themselves.
