Balázs Markulik

Balázs Markulik was born in 1968 in Csantavér, in what was then Yugoslavia, and spent his early years studying applied arts in Novi Sad before enrolling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. When his studies were interrupted in 1991, he moved to Hungary and completed his master's degree in art at the University of Szeged in 2012. Though he briefly taught in Serbian primary schools in 1996, Markulik's true focus has always remained on his own artistic practice. Now based in Austria, he brings together influences from his education across the Balkans and Central Europe to create work that reflects a life lived across different places and cultures.
