“Janus” is quite different from Dominic’s other work, since it is more sober and simplistic. Still, Dominic created a powerful image using less color. Portrayed here is the Roman god Janus, the classic icon of the man with two faces. Furthermore Janus is known as the god of beginnings, endings en transitions. You can easily spot the two different faces in this portrait, but Dominic managed to create a whole as well. Although Janus is a male figure, the artist’ main interest in portraying women is still visible in the feminine features of the Roman god.
